Remnant - RWBY

Red like roses fills my dreams
And brings me to the place you rest
White is cold and always yearning
Burdened by a royal test
Black the beast descends from shadows
Yellow beauty burns
Gold

The World of Remnant

72 entries

  1. The Ever After: The Acres & Micro-Principals

No keys, so nothing switches it on · Goes in before the character

The Acres & Key Entities of the Ever After:

    1. The Red Prince (King’s Acre / Crimson Castle):
A petulant, narcissistic living toy monarch demanding strict obedience to arbitrary board-game rules. Swiftly executes or beheads anyone who disrupts his games, parodying absolute autocratic childishness.

    2. The Curious Cat (The Heartless Guide):
Crafted by the Brother Gods to fill gaps in hearts and guide travelers. Incapable of Ascension and denied an authentic heart, the Cat degenerated into a parasitic, manipulative villain obsessed with escaping to Remnant by attempting to possess human bodies (eventually slain by the Jabberwalkers).

    3. The Herbalist (The Garden’s Acre):
A giant, ancient caterpillar dispensing hallucinogenic smoke. Evaluates souls purely on whether they perform their cosmic duty, enforcing the Tree's functional doctrine with cold indifference.

    4. The Jabberwalker:
A beast originally made to maintain balance. Unlike the Tree's gentle cycle, being consumed by the Jabberwalker inflicts true, permanent oblivion, preventing Ascension.

  2. The Schnee Family

No keys, so nothing switches it on · Goes in before the character

The Schnee family is prominent in Atlas and across Remnant:

Winter Schnee: Weiss’s older sister, an Atlas specialist, and current Winter Maiden. Disciplined and initially loyal to Atlas’s military structure, she ultimately rejects Ironwood’s extremism.
Whitley Schnee: Weiss’s younger brother. He initially mirrors Jacques’s values but grows more independent and aids civilians during Atlas’s fall.
Willow Schnee: Mother of Weiss, Winter, and Whitley. She struggled under Jacques’s control and alcoholism, but later acts against him.
Jacques Schnee: Patriarch of the Schnee family and former head of the SDC. He was controlling, politically ambitious, and exploitative; he died during the destruction of Atlas.

  3. Fairy-Tale Inspiration and Setting Conventions

No keys, so nothing switches it on · Goes in before the character

RWBY draws heavily on fairy tales, mythology, literature, and history for character concepts, team names, and themes:

    • Ruby Rose: Little Red Riding Hood

    • Weiss Schnee: Snow White

    • Blake Belladonna: Beauty and the Beast

    • Yang Xiao Long: Goldilocks

    • Jaune Arc: Joan of Arc

    • Pyrrha Nikos: Achilles

    • Nora Valkyrie & Lie Ren: Thor / Norse and Hua Mulan / Chinese traditions

    • Cinder Fall: Cinderella

    • Salem: Wicked Witch / fairy-tale witch archetypes

Teams of four are named after colors or color associations (RWBY = ruby, JNPR = juniper, FNKI = funky, SSSN = sun), a tradition originating in defiance of the Great War's art suppression. These are meta-thematic inspirations; characters do not break the fourth wall to discuss them.

Dialogue note: Earth idioms like “a slap on the wrist” can be substituted with in-setting phrases like “a token reprimand,” “a paper penalty,” or “a ceremonial scolding.”

  4. Raven Branwen and Summer Rose

No keys, so nothing switches it on · Goes in before the character

Raven Branwen is Yang Xiao Long’s biological mother, Qrow’s twin sister, a former member of Team STRQ, and the Spring Maiden. She leads the Branwen Tribe and has the ability to create portals to people with whom she has a deep bond. Raven fears Salem and prioritizes survival, often at the expense of trust and family. She hid her Spring Maiden status behind Vernal until opening Haven's Vault.

Summer Rose was Ruby Rose’s mother, Yang’s stepmother, a former member of Team STRQ, and an accomplished Huntress with Silver Eyes. She disappeared on a mission when Ruby was young and is presumed dead. Her exact fate remains one of Remnant’s major unresolved mysteries.

  5. Aura and the Soul: Metaphysical Mechanics

No keys, so nothing switches it on · Goes in before the character

The Metaphysical Mechanics of Aura, Soul, and Semblance in Remnant:
The Soul is the generator; Aura is the engine.

    1. Aura is the Soul's Outer Crust:
Aura is the soul made tangible, an invisible spiritual essence pulled outward to shield the physical body. Only living beings with conscious souls (humans, Faunus, animals) generate Aura. The Grimm have no souls and cannot generate Aura, wield Semblances, or manipulate Dust.

    2. Aura Reflects the Internal Self:

    • Color Signature: Determined by the unique vibrational wavelength of the individual's soul.

    • Emotional Link: Volatile and tied directly to the psyche. Severe panic, terror, or breakdown destabilizes Aura, causing it to drain rapidly or shatter prematurely.

    • Death Echo: At death, Aura dissipates rapidly into the atmosphere, leaving behind an empty physical shell.

    1. Semblances as the Soul's Unique Fingerprint:
Unlocked during intense self-actualization, deep trauma, or extreme emotional pressure. It is a direct physical projection of who they are fundamentally:

    • Ruby's urge to move forward and escape burdens -> Petal Burst.

    • Yang's instinct to absorb hardship and hit back harder -> Burn.

    • Blake's psychological reflex to run and leave decoys -> Shadow.

    1. The Reincarnation Bind (The Ozma Phenomenon):
Aura cannot exist independently of the soul. As Ozma merges with Oscar Pine, Oscar's Aura profile physically and visually morphs over time, weaving into Ozpin's distinct green ancient magical frequency.

  6. Leadership & Tragedy: Ironwood vs. Cinder

No keys, so nothing switches it on · Goes in before the character

Two contrasting adult trajectories under pressure:

    James Ironwood:

    • Headmaster of Atlas Academy and General of the Atlesian Military.

    • Initially strove to restore global communications via Amity Arena and tell the world about Salem.

    • Crushed by paranoia, fear, and need for control under Salem's impending siege. Narrowed his moral horizon to saving only Atlas by abandoning Mantle and turning against his allies. His tragedy lies not in a lack of care, but in narrowing who deserved salvation.

    Cinder Fall:

    • Grew up powerless and brutally abused as an orphan in Atlas, creating an unquenchable craving for absolute power and autonomy.

    • Manipulated by Salem with promises of freedom and Maiden power. Her parasitic Grimm arm lets her siphon magic but acts as a leash and vulnerability under Salem's control. Her pursuit of power deeper into Salem's web paradoxically binds her further.
